Poor Service

Very disappointing experience on the 2nd time around. After chasing me to get me Fire Risk Assessment booked in because the previous one was about to expire, ( or more than one occasion unnecessarily). They then tried to charge me for things that are not needed on a risk assessment and i had to be firm with them as i work in property so knew they were just touting for business. I have today received the certificate nearly 3 months after the report was carried out. This was very disappointing especially as i had to continually chase the report . I would not recommend i had a client with a block of 16 flats i could of referred but obviously didn't.

Where’s the refund?

We booked an appointment and paid on 20th Jan. The engineer didn’t turn up and nobody notified us about the issue. The staff agreed to refund us but after 2 months we still haven’t received the refund. Never received any response from them 1 month ago.

Care Home Fire Risk Assessment: Ensuring the Safety of Vulnerable Residents in London

For care home operators in London, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents is the utmost priority. Fire safety is a critical aspect of this responsibility, and conducting a comprehensive care home fire risk assessment is not just a legal requirement but an ethical imperative. This blog post will delve into the specifics of fire risk assessments for care homes in London, highlighting the legal obligations, key considerations, and the importance of a thorough evaluation.

Care homes in London cater to individuals who may have limited mobility, cognitive impairments, or other vulnerabilities, making fire safety particularly complex and crucial. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a clear legal duty on the “responsible person” (typically the care home manager or owner) to ensure the premises are safe from fire and that a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is carried out by a competent person. This assessment must identify potential fire hazards, the people at risk, and the measures in place to mitigate those risks.

A care home fire risk assessment in London requires a detailed and person-centered approach. Unlike standard commercial or residential properties, care homes necessitate consideration of the specific needs and evacuation capabilities of each resident. This includes assessing resident profiles, such as their mobility, cognitive abilities, and any medical conditions that might affect their ability to respond to a fire alarm or evacuate safely. Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) may be required for individuals with specific needs. Developing clear and well-rehearsed evacuation plans that take into account the staffing levels, layout of the building, and the time it may take to assist residents to safety is also essential. Different evacuation strategies, such as phased or horizontal evacuation, might be appropriate depending on the care home’s design and the residents’ needs. Ensuring that the care home has an appropriate fire alarm system, often an L1 category system as recommended for life safety, with detectors in all rooms and areas is vital, with consideration given to visual and tactile alerts for residents with hearing impairments. Evaluating the need for fire suppression systems such as sprinklers, which are becoming increasingly recommended, is another key aspect. Ensuring the availability of appropriate and well-maintained firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers and fire blankets, and that staff are trained in their correct use is also necessary. Checking that fire doors are correctly installed, maintained, and regularly inspected to prevent the spread of fire and smoke, along with ensuring adequate fire compartmentation throughout the building, is crucial. Providing comprehensive and regular fire safety training to all staff members, including evacuation procedures, the use of fire safety equipment, and their specific responsibilities in the event of a fire, is paramount. Implementing and strictly enforcing clear smoking policies, considering the risks associated with smoking and the potential for unsupervised smoking by residents, is also important. Finally, assessing and managing the risks associated with medical oxygen cylinders and other hazardous materials commonly found in care homes completes this person-centered approach.

A competent fire risk assessor for a care home in London will have specific expertise in fire safety within healthcare or similar high-dependency environments. They will understand the unique challenges of evacuating vulnerable individuals and the importance of robust fire safety management systems.

The fire risk assessment for a care home in London is not a one-time event. It must be reviewed and updated regularly, at least annually or whenever there are significant changes to the building, occupancy, or care practices. Regular reviews ensure that the fire safety measures remain appropriate and effective.

To ensure the safety of your vulnerable residents and comply with fire safety regulations in London, it is essential to engage a competent fire risk assessor with experience in care home settings. You can find more information and book a professional Care Home Fire Risk Assessment.
